The birds' cemetery

~ The Natron lake, Tanzania

There's a lake, in Africa, shimmering, with a perfect reflection of the solid world, wich is like a cage. A mortuary cage, in wich lies the bodies of birds and bats, relatively well preserved and who we'll be the

subject of a photographies series, taken by Nick Brandt, a nice photographer who takes pictures exclulisively in Africa, in black and white with astoudings subjects.

In this series, the disorder is felt before thes mummified animals, whose death is not really defined. The photographers evokes the reflection of Lake Natron, wich would shoke them and make them die. Even more troubling, and above it, beautiful, the perfection of the posture, frozen, one might think that they takes the pose, like as there just locked, full of magesty, proud of the fact that they're able to fly, to regain their activity after.

This lake contains a relatively high salt content, And the life is only for species that will adapt, in addition to being a breeding area for birds. This fact creates a mystery, and will surely make the culmination of a new myth, in which right and wrong are indistinguishable, but the fact is that these creatures, petrified, with a disdainfuly ease is to ask questions, and beauty of the pictures makes the things even more significant for us, spectators of this incomprehensible cemetery.
